Leadership Program Sponsorship and Participation Solicitation Letter
The Windham Region Chamber of Commerce continues to offer a community leadership program. Begun in 2005, the current year (2007-2008) program’s theme will be “Creating a Safe, Caring, and Nurturing Community for the Children of Northeastern Connecticut” – familiarization of students with a wide variety of programs, agencies, support groups, and local/state individuals who may be called upon to offer “children related” services. Prior year programs focused on “Economic Development in a Multi-Cultural Community” (2005), and “Innovations that Move our Community Forward” (2006).
The Program runs for nine months – September 2007 through May 2008, with an overall goal of meeting the leadership needs of the 12 communities within the Chamber Region by preparing emerging and prospective leaders to become policy makers, change agents, program developers, and project managers in government, education, and voluntary organizations.
The concept of the program is formed of three distinct educational opportunities:
Familiarization with program themes through direct discussions with agencies and individuals, visits to applicable offices and organizations administering applicable programs, and interaction with administrators to consider operational, legislative, legal, political, and/or strategic elements of the theme-program.
Experiential familiarization with leadership philosophies, principles, optional procedures, and case studies to enhance personal skills related to leadership needs.
Selection and implementation of a community-contribution project the goal of which is to establish a fundamental benefit program to the community, and its transfer to the community for continued operation after the class is complete.

Similar community leadership programs have demonstrated that individual participants grow in their understanding of the community and their ability to be effectively engaged as citizen leaders. Our communities benefit by the influx of new leaders who are knowledgeable and committed to positive change. Employers gain by increasing their visibility and by having their staff members apply new skills to the workplace, establish new and helpful business relationships, and engage more fully in the community.
We invite your business or organization to send one or more participants in accordance with the following fee schedule.
The fee schedule for participants is:
Participants from large for-profit employers (300+): $1000
Participants from large non-profit employers (300+): $750
Participants from employers between 51 and 300: $500
Participants from employers of 50 and under: $350
Individual participants will be asked to make a personal $100 commitment
We encourage private and public sector employers as well as municipalities to send participants. We plan to have our FY 2007-2008 class balanced between private, public and non-profit sectors with approximately 20 members.
If you are unable to send a participant, perhaps you would consider a scholarship for another individual as your contribution to the growth and resurgence of economic development in our ever changing cultural environment.
