EASTCONN’s ACT Teacher Chosen to Present at AFT TEACH 2019 Conference
Willimantic, CT – Stacy Vocasek, an English teacher at EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) magnet high school, has been selected to present at the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) TEACH 2019 National Conference, which will take place in Washington, D.C., in July.
Vocasek’s proposal, “Visual Literacy: Art-based Reading and Writing Strategies,” focuses on K-12 teachers and learning strategies for incorporating visual art into all content area classrooms as a support for Common Core standards. These strategies support reading and writing skills, vocabulary acquisition, creative writing, communication skills and more, offering teachers a variety of take-home materials and activities that can be implemented in their classrooms.
