Enjoy a Month of Bald Eagles

Mid-Winter Eagle Count


The Last Green Valley staff and volunteer Rangers will be participating in Connecticut’s state-wide mid-winter eagle count Jan. 13. Last year, volunteers spotted 12 eagles. Stay tuned for the results of the 2018 count!

Acorn Adventure: Eagle Eyes with Chief Ranger Bill Reid


Saturday, Jan. 20, 1 – 2:30 pm

Roseland Park, Woodstock, CT 

Children and their families are invited to join The Last Green Valley’s Chief Ranger Bill Reid and Ranger J.P. Babineau who will share fun facts about eagles. Participants will get a chance to experience just how big a bald eagle’s wings are, how huge their eyes are compared to the size of their heads, and other fun activities. The group will also search for eagles at this popular spot for these incredible birds of prey.


Bring binoculars or a spotting scope if you have them. Enthusiasm and a desire to learn about these beautiful birds are essential!

Learn About Bald Eagles

in The Last Green Valley 

Saturday, Jan. 27, 9:30 am to noon

Snow date Jan. 28, 1 – 3:30 pm

Killingly and Plainfield, CT

Geared towards adults, Chief Ranger Bill Reid will lead a program on the status of bald eagles in The Last Green Valley. 

This two-part program will begin at the conference room of The Last Green Valley office in Danielson with a power point presentation on bald eagles in the region. Ranger Bill will provide updated information on numbers of eagles nesting in CT and results of the 2017 breeding season as well as information and results from the January 13th midwinter eagle  survey. Following the presentation participants are invited to drive to the Quinebaug Valley Trout Hatchery with Ranger Bill in hopes of seeing bald eagles.

The program is free to members and $10 for non-members. 


Meet A Board Member

There’s a good chance you already know Myra Ambrogi, Secretary of The Last Green Valley Board of Directors. Myra has been Recreation Director for the Town of Plainfield for 33 years and an integral part of the community. Her life’s work has been getting people active and helping them enjoy the outdoors, but it’s also a personal passion. Myra is an avid hiker and canoeist. She is also a fiber enthusiast, spinning and weaving natural wool from local sheep and alpaca. Myra has been board secretary since 2013 and a board member since 2012. She has invested her time in The Last Green Valley because “it’s where we live. I treasure the open space, water and the history.”

Hosted by the Willington and Ashford Conservation Commissions, in partnership with TLGV, Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP), Connecticut Farmland Trust, and MassConn.

Marty’s of Dudley has offered to recycle cans and bottles and donate the proceeds to The Last Green Valley. Bring your sorted cans and bottles to Marty’s, located at 119 West Main St. Dudley, MA, between 9:30 am to 5:45 pm, Monday thru Saturday, and let the staff know you are returning them for The Last Green Valley. Marty’s will log them in and send us a check!
