National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Safely dispose of your prescription drugs and other unwanted medications on Saturday, April 27th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at police departments across the state.

On Saturday, April 27th, police departments across Connecticut will be participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This nation wide event is sponsored by the National Drug Enforcement Administration and, “aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs.”

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue that has the potential to contribute to accidental poisoning, overdose, and drug abuse. In 2018, there were 1017 accidental drug deaths in Connecticut, an increase of nearly 80% from 2014 (568 accidental drug deaths). Proper disposal of prescription medications and awareness of theses dangerous and habit forming drugs has never been more important.

Since 2012, Drug Box Programs in Connecticut have collected and safely disposed of more than 165,000 pounds of unneeded prescription and over the counter medications. Click HERE to locate a medication drop box near you.
