A malicious spoof email is currently circulating statewide. It appears to be sent from the CT SOTS Business Registry. It is a fake email to steal your personal information and hack your devices. Do NOT click on the links. The Secretary of State is warning all CT businesses to avoid this email that includes a malicious Docusign link to a document they want you to review and sign. This is “spoofing” as the “from” address looks like it is the Office of the Secretary of State (SOTS).
Safety tips: The SOTS will never send an unsolicited document for signature. Emails will always come from a @ct.gov email address. All email applications allow you to hover over the “from” and see the real sender so if it is not from @ct.gov then it is not to be trusted. Hackers often use similar addresses like @cct.gov or @ct-gov so be vigilant.
Do not click any links or open documents that you are not aware are being sent to you. Another trick is to send you an invoice that you must click on. This can unleash malware. Always be super careful and question anything you are not expecting.
